- Talk - with Brian Key ‘Five miles round Pentrich’
- Date - Tuesday, 20th May 2008
- Meeting Place - Village Hall at 7.30pm
- Details - Will Brian Key put Pentrich in its place again? His illustrated talk offers many insights into the history of the village; especially its links with the communities to the east of the village Alfreton, Swanwick, Codnor, Heanor and Ilkeston. This follows on from Brian’s highly successful talk on the links with South Wingfield, Crich and other places to the west across the River Amber.
- ===========
- Talk - Luddites, Chartists and other revolutions!
- Date - Tuesday 17th June2008
- Meeting Place - Village Hall at 7.30pm
- Details - Marking the 191st anniversary of the Pentrich Revolution ... 191 years ago this year the people of Pentrich and nearby areas joined the “Revolution”. This is usually presented as a protest at the poverty and poor living conditions following the end of the Napoleonic wars and failure of crops after the eruption of the Tambora Volcano. Whilst these were the immediate cause of the Revolution, it was in reality part of a sequence of troubles lasting from the early days of the industrial revolution in the late 18th century to the middle of the 19th century and covering a much wider part of the country. .
