MEMBERSHIP ENQUIRIES

We receive a lot of enquiries about membership of Pentrich Historical Society. New members are always welcome, but membership only really benefits people who are close enough to come to meetings and have a general interest in local (Derbyshire) history. Our programme focusses little, if at all, on family history research or issues connected with the Revolution of 1817. Membership is currently £7.50 per person (per year) ... this money covers the rental of the village hall for our monthly meetings & talks. We charge an additional £2.00 per person (members & non-members) who attend any of our scheduled ‘Talks’ with a guest speaker. The entrance fee covers the cost of the guest speaker & helps fund ongoing or new projects undertaken by society members. Therefore anyone who regularly attends society meetings would be expected to pay annual membership, usually payable at the annual AGM or thereabouts.

Family researchers (with Pentrich ancestry) are welcome to contact us, asking if anyone knows of, or about, their ancestors. We usually read such correspondence at meetings and if anyone has any knowledge we can pass it on. However, our usual response is that there are very good resources at Chatsworth library (rent and tithe records, etc) and through the local studies and Records Office collections. Ancestral information can also be found on the monumental inscriptions within St Matthew's Churchyard. We do hope to complete our compilation of gravestone iInscriptions sometime; followed up with a full list of memorial inscriptions at St. Matthews church.

If you are coming to Pentrich from any distance, you are welcome to either attend one of our meetings (see events list or contact us by email) ... or tell us you are coming and we will try to arrange someone to tell you about any relevant sites for your family. This may include welcoming you in person, though we cannot always guarantee someone will be free to make a personal welcome. Visitors from as far afield as Australia, British Columbia and the USA have in the past, enjoyed a visit to the church and looked around the village to see the places where their ancestors lived ... not forgetting The Dog Inn, where former residents have spent much of their time!

See ... ‘Contacting the society’

Other ways of getting involved: You could involve yourself via the ‘Ancestry Board’ which is for people with Pentrich (& area) ancestors, who would like to make contact with other descendants. Alternatively you could donate copies of your family documents, or family tree research ... all these things help the society ... with our own research and help us understand the village’s past & its former residents.

Also if you wanted to write something about your Pentrich ancestors & share it with us, then please do so ... or maybe you have something else related to Pentrich, that you’d like to share?  .... If so, please go to>> ‘Pentrich Inspired’
