John CARTER of Aldercar

Was with the second mob at Eastwood. [W. Booth]

Thomas CLARKE of Codnor; Publican

A gun was forcibly taken from his house and also 3 or 4 forks from his out buildings by the insurgents between 4 & 5 o’clock on Tuesday morning and the gang demanded and had 8 quarts of ale at his house without paying for it. [J. Clarke]

Admiral Lord COCHRANE

Was to command the fleets after the government was formed. [James Booth]

William Smith, the Ripley delegate had been in his company on the subject of the petition as Smith told the society at one of their meetings held after his return from London. [George Anthony]

Edmund COCKER of Pentrich

Was with the mob at Pentrich. [W. Shipman]

John COPE of Butterley; Ironworker

About 12 months ago he went over to Somercotes & solicited George Walker and several other workmen at the iron works there to join in the establishment of a political club. [G. Walker]

Was appointed secret committee man for Butterley. Took an active part in the debates &c. Was at the 5th meeting at Asherfields Barn. [A.Booth] [W. Young]

About a fortnight ago he was at a meeting at one Brassingtons, an odd house between Ripley & Butterley, where John Booth produced & Cope read a pamphlet called Sherwins Pamphlet to John, Joseph, Michael & Thomas Onions, Timothy Mantle & John Stone, James M* Cape & Brassington & Booth said it was the best pamphlet that ever was read. Was again at Somercotes on Saturday June 7th & went into the casting house at the iron works where George Walker, James Wyld, William Price & an apprentice were at work and at that time casting a centre piece of an engine beam. When he said to Walker that he would never see it turned (meaning that it would not be smoothed and finished) and said there would be a general rising throughout the Kingdom & if he  Walker had not got arms he must provide himself with some and that every man would be shot who did not go voluntarily. Was at the meeting at the White Horse Pentrich on Sunday June 8th.

Was seen coming on the road from Pentrich by Butterley works between 3 & 4 o’clock on Tuesday morning June 10th soon after George Weightman was seen to pass by on Horseback for Nottingham. [G. Goodwin]

Mr. William COPE of Hartshay, Ripley

Soon after three o’clock on Tuesday morning his house door was forced open & 6 or 7 men entered the house and were very violent and demanded and took away a gun & pistol. [W. Cope]

Peter COUPE of Hartshay, Ripley
